The PDW Bag Concept

 The PDW bag is an unobtrusive method of carrying a weapon larger than a pistol but smaller than a rifle, as well as spare magazines, medical / trauma kit, communications, and other gear one would traditionally carry in a chest rig or other load-bearing equipment. 

The PDW bag is a niche tool for addressing specific extreme situations. Some examples include breakdown of law and order, widespread social unrest, or other serious circumstances in which having access to something more than a concealed pistol would be beneficial, but overt display of weapons would not. 

The PDW bag is essentially a holster for the PDW, so it should be treated as such. The bag should be carried on the user’s person, and should not be removed from the body or left unattended. 

Additionally, the bag should function as a discreet chest rig. Pouches for magazines and other gear should be properly secured so that when the bag is deployed those items are (a) in a consistent, reachable position, and (b) are stable enough within the bag that the user can retrieve the contents while under stress.

1. The bag should have a nondescript appearance. It should be of a common shape and size, have no overtly “tactical” design features (i.e. visible external molle), and avoid “tactical” color schemes (e.g. FDE, ODG, camo, etc.) unless that is the norm in the specific environment where the user will be operating.
2. The bag should be able to discreetly contain the primary weapon with no obvious bulges or protruding parts.
3. The user should be able to access other contents of the bag without revealing the primary weapon.
4. The bag should enable the user to bring the weapon from concealment to a firing position quickly (i.e. under 3 seconds).
5. The weapon should be able to be drawn quickly and smoothly, without hanging up on other gear or snagging on bag edges. While practice can address many challenges related to the draw, some designs are not conducive to an effective draw and should be avoided.
6. After deployment of the PDW, the user should be able to access spare mags and other essential equipment without major effort or significant readjustments of the bag.

• Interior compartments should be available in a contrasting or lighter colors; this makes it easier for the user to locate and access the contents of the compartment in low-light settings.
• All compartments large enough to accommodate it should be covered in loop backing or molle to enable the user to customize their pouch layout.
• Zippers should be durable, double-stitched, and easy-opening, preferably making as little noise as possible.
• Zipper handles should be equipped with some kind of pull handle to facilitate rapid access to the compartment as well as enabling the user to easily identify the correct zipper by feel.
• Backpack material should be water-resistant, as the user may need to carry it in adverse weather.
• The PDW compartment should ideally be semi-rigid to prevent bulging / printing. This includes reinforced material where the PDW will "rest" when bag is carried normally (i.e. on the back).
• Padding around the PDW compartment is recommended to prevent unwanted noise during movement.
